At Steady Strides we work closely with our local and regional partners providing fall prevention and stroke rehabilitation education to clinicians, state and city public health professionals, patients and their caregivers. We regularly host students for research and shadowing. Over the past two years we have given multiple physician Grand Rounds presentations at hospitals around Baltimore as well as in multiple Senior Centers in the community. Please feel free to reach out to us if we can help provide an educational opportunity at your institution.

Even though falls are common in the elderly, and often are due to medical conditions, evaluating patients at risk of falls has not been generally taught in the US medical school curriculum. Even though most medical providers are very familiar with the term “syncope” (which means “passing out”), syncope usually accounts for not more than 10% of all community dwelling senior falls, and the rest of the falls are delegated to either “mechanical fall” or “multifactorial” categories (that is to say no clear diagnosis). At Steady Strides we are committed to spreading the cutting-edge scientific research findings and clinical expertise in the field of fall prevention medicine to other physicians, therapists, caregivers and the elderly. We regularly host premedical and other students and help coordinate research experience to help advance the science of fall prevention.

Stroke rehabilitation is a complex topic with detailed best practice guidelines published by the American Stroke Association. Overall the guidelines describe some of the common medical and rehabilitation barriers in optimal recovery in stroke patients. At Steady Strides we work diligently to help promote educational opportunities in the specialty field of stroke rehabilitation.
